The messaging client on the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update includes now Group Text and Facebook Chat besides the regular normal SMS/text messaging. Soon Twitter messaging will be integrated as well. However there are many people who can’t get the Facebook chat to work using the turn on switch in the settings option even though their Facebook is set up as an account in the settings. I will explain here how you can make it work for you.
The problem actually is not with the Mango update or the settings on your Phone. There are a couple of settings you need change on your desktop. These are as follows:
1. Go to your profile page for the Live ID you used to set up your phone initially: http://profile.live.com
2. Make sure your Facebook account is connected to that Live ID in your Profile. Click on connect on the left bar of your Profile. If Facebook is already connected I would still follow these steps to have the right settings.
3. Select “Social Networking” on the left side bar in which you can select “Facebook” on the right hand bar.
4. Make sure you have the following settings are checked.
5. Select “Save”
6. Now you have to go to your Facebook account on your desktop. Http://www.facebook.com
7. The Chat box on the right bottom of your Facebook page needs to have a Green Dot to indicate that your are Online. If you are (Offline) you can easily change the status to be online by clicking the little chat box.
8. Finally you can go back to your Windows Phone. Select “Messaging” from your home screen or from your Application list. Tap the three little dots on the right bottom and select “settings”. You might be surprised to see that the Chat slide is already turned to “on”.
Enjoy you Facebook chatting integration in the Messaging app on your Windows Phone 7.5 with the Mango Update.
UPDATE: Some Users are required to delete their Facebook account on their phone and set it up again.
